[Postgame Thread] BYU Defeats Arizona State 27-17
By - A-Stu-Ute
If it makes you feel better Arizona State fans, at least you're not Arizona
That was true long before today as well
ASU: #1 in innovation, #130 in penalties.
Could be #1 depending on how you're ordering the teams.
Mmmm 'Descending by total yardage' back to number 1!
*Checks BYU's student body makeup*
We're good for the season!
Nothing says most experienced team in the Pac like 16 penalties for 121 yards.
I can't get over that series of false starts in the fourth quarter. That was just sad.
The student section was brutally loud. You've got to have a silent count ready.
I had it max at 115 dBs, and I wasn’t even in student section
It was like watching a demolition derby car that was about to win just pitifully trying to restart its engine and getting nowhere.
On the contrary, I thought it was quite great.
That play by the BYU Running back is legitimately one of the best plays I’ve ever seen. Completely swung the game
I thought the game was basically over when they got that interception. I could not believe how that play ended. Agree that it saved the game for BYU.
I want a poster of this play
Algier is a an absolute beast.
He's a sophomore too.
Play of the game right here. For BYU, potentially play of the year.
I've watched the replay honestly 100 times by now. I can't think of a better play.
My jaw dropped straight to the floor. Never seen anything like that.
Saved the game. What a beast.
He came to BYU as a linebacker.
He came as a RB, switched to LB then switched back
that is what our leading RB, Abram Smith, did. RB->LB->RB
I hope y’all stay undefeated until our game. Will be an awesome big 12 preview
Most iconic BYU play since (trigger warning) the hurdle.
I like this one even more though because it was just raw effort and not giving up.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Arizona just lost to Northern Arizona for the first time since 1932
Imagine being an Arizona school that lost a football game on September 18th 2021, couldn't be me.
Dude why do you care about a game between two random fcs teams
Show me on the doll where the Lumberjack hurt you
He grabbed my axe!
That's a five yard penalty for ASU. Can't get enough of em
Somehow BYU only beat us by 8 though lmao
I think BYU was trying to keep as much from Utah as humanly possible
First game struggles 🤷♀️
I've been seeing a lot of stats like these in the last few weeks.
How did we struggle with them?
Jeez Zona, get it together.
We’re definitely not helping your strength of schedule that’s for sure
Seems like the PAC12 is instructing teams that lost to BYU to tank their seasons.
We kept reloading the gun to shoot ourselves in the foot. Gg BYU.
Yeah if ASU cleans it up they’ll be a force to be reckoned with
That's a pretty massive 'if'
If…… If is good!
Oregon: WHY CANT YOU BE NORMAL?
Pac-12: *screams* PAC-12 AFTER DARK
The Pac-12 is losing almost every notable OOC game and is losing some regrettable upsets mixed in. Oregon's two best wins this year will probably end up being the Ohio State and Fresno State games. The non-Oregon Pac-12 looks worse than the non-Clemson ACC.
I fucking hate this conference sometimes
I was about to say that UCLA was about to lose to Fresno State but somehow they scored 13 points in 30 seconds???
And still lost!
AAAAAAAnd it's gone.
Don't worry they still allowed a 75 yard td in 44 seconds... nice defense UCLA. Way to pressure a guy who can hardly move. It's so much better to sit back in soft coverage giving up 10-20 yard chucks every play...
This is the least disciplined team I’ve seen since the Erickson era. Norman-Lott ripping the helmet off is unacceptable and shows just how undisciplined they are. Bad showing all around. Great game from BYU. They outplayed us by FAR.
I'm dumbfounded as to how they didn't have a silent count ready to go in case it got too loud. It was comical after a while
Damn, same for us. I don’t know why, but Utah just looks out of it. I look forward to our shit show. And people really expected the south to be good lmfao
My take, the Covid year was rough for the PAC12 due to the limited amount of games played. Other teams that played a full season have an advantage this year. More reps, more experience, etc...
Well.. it’ll be competitive
BYU definitely outplayed us. If ASU had discipline in lock we would probably have a shot to beat them. Our skill level is insane to be beat like this.
I think a lot of that had to do with playing against a real crowd. When’s the last time ASU has played in front of 65,000 fans? Big shock coming after that covid year
~~PAC~~ PUKE12 AFTER DARK
Hurrah for even-numbered quarters!
Like even-numbered Star Trek movies, they’re just more enjoyable to watch
Watching that Tyler punch in slow-mo hi-def, it occurred to me if you put that in a Disney movie, people would tell you to tone down the schmaltz. The leap, the wind-up, the perfect placement of the punch... I think that's the most incredible hustle play I've ever seen.
That Allgeier punch was a thing of beauty. Full wind up
I had the over, that whole sequence was a crazy swing that ended in sadness
We in the student section lost our collective minds when that happened. So dope
Get your BYU flair brotha
I don’t frequent this sub but I decided to come check out what people think. Seems to be 90% ASU or non BYU fans lol
I’ll get a flair
Edit: when I try to add a flair there’s only a none and a blank option lol
What do I do if this lasts more than 4 hours
Talk to Cosmo
Heard it over the radio driving home from work, definitely didn't do it justice
[Here's the play](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dlhxiZgSY4)
[Algier punching that ball out](https://i.imgur.com/Uwy7xrl.gif)
Lol, I keep wanting to find a high res, good photo of this punch and I fall for these links every time 😂. I think I've clicked about 6 of these so far
What a thing of beauty
The height, the punch, just a great play
“Tomahawk chop I’m an announcer and that was a tomahawk chop”
But a very classic after dark play lol
Yo the Mormons came to fucking BALL this year
Team only has 3 seniors too
Rest of Big XII laughs nervously
Allgeier got tired of announcers talking about him previously being a linebacker and now being a running back, so he decided to be both in the same game. Really saved our butts.
That punch was incredible
If BYU wins out, do they make the playoff?
The answer for them, and every other non P5 team, is always gonna be “Maybe, it’ll take a lot of chaos”
BYU has a way better schedule than Cincinnati and any other g5’s
If they go undefeated there is a very real case for them although in the end it’s up to the committee and I don’t think we can trust them to put BYU in
We play 7 P5 teams and already beat 3
Sure! Y’all are a great team with a legit schedule, and if you win out I for sure think you DESERVE to make the playoffs. The issue is that’s never really been the benchmark. UCF also deserved to make the playoffs after two straight undefeated years, and Cincinnati probably did too in the weird Covid year last year. Most teams in FBS just aren’t on a level playing field in the committee’s eyes. I’m rooting for y’all tho
Edit: also, let’s not be hasty and call Arizona a Power 5 team. At this point, even FBS is a stretch
They'd secure a solid 6th place and a NY6 game against a 3 loss P5.
This post hurts because it’s so true....
Considering they’d be 5-0 agains the Pac 12 if they were undefeated they’d probably get in over any Pac 12 besides an undefeated Oregon.
Yes, but BYU fans need to start pulling for USC immediately. If the Trojans somehow win out and beat UCLA, Notre Dame, and Arizona State, they would likely be a top 10 team when it comes time for BYU to play them.
At that point they would have a pretty strong case, though the committee would likely still keep them out, because the committee sucks
The PAC 12 and ACC have made it clear they aren't offering anyone better
Eh Oregon would be good to go if they run they table
they need their opponents to be decent like Baylor, UVA Southern Cal, Boise State, Georgia Southern can't all be .500
Based on how the CFP ranked BYU last year, probably not
We have P5 opponents this time. But I'm not putting on the goggles for a few more games.
Opening with 3 p5 teams and beating all 3 is about as much as you can ask for. Even if those teams don't end up that good by seasons end
Just when I think I've seen it all, BYU takes a knee on a PAT.
Smart play though! Didn’t let ASU potentially block the PAT and make it a one score game by returning it
Happened in the Oklahoma/Nebraska game today so good call
Yeah it took me a sec to understand that’s why. Pretty smart. Already up two scores anyway
BYU should play Oregon for the pac-12 championship
They do match up next year. Looking like it'll be a fun game.
I really hope Hall's okay
He'll be ok I prayed for him
but did you fast for him?
I haven't eaten since the injury so we'll see what happens
Did they pray that the Gatorade would nourish and strengthen him?
Yes, along with a supplication for him to have a safe drive home.
Will he be able to stack chairs tomorrow
["You can just leave those there — I’ll come back and get the rest."](https://www.theonion.com/man-hoping-people-notice-how-many-folding-chairs-he-s-c-1819576444)
Yes, and that it would do him the good that he needs.
Kalani post game said he thinks he’ll be back
Gonna be mad scenes when a 6-6 PAC 12 South team upsets Oregon in the Conference Championship and goes to the Rose Bowl at 7-6
I thought it was decided between the Montana and NAU wins over PAC 12 teams that the Big Sky champ gets to take the PAC spot in the Rose Bowl.
I would not mind that.
How did I get on this BYU bandwagon? How do I get off!? I'm scared
Dude, I'm an exmormon, who doesn't even live in state anymore, and I still get on this ridiculous ride every year.
Its a good ratio of members to non. I like it. Brings variety.
I feel this post. Non-practicing, but I love/hate watching BYU football in the fall.
Same, this football team is the one thing I can't shake
Hey, at least know they are true, it’s in the motto!
Same here. Ex-Mormon who roots for BYU. Their football team is surprisingly good.
Exmormon BYU fan hype.
Even despite the football, I had a good time at BYU despite the weird Mormon things.
>I'm an exmormon
Exmormon , BYU fan... You're my favorite type of person. I love you.
There’s dozens of us!
Don’t forget your chocolate milk brother
I'm pretty weirded out, you feeling okay? Is there an urgent care nearby so you can get checked out?
The ROC literally caused 4 false starts on the same drive
THE WHOLE STADIUM WAS SO FUCKING LOUD!!
You’re welcome bb
THAT TOMAHAWK CHOP THO!
BYU gonna mess around and win the Pac 12
Game ball goes to Allgeier for the punch out and the fans for causing so many false starts. Totally killed ASU's momentum.
Guys, I’m gonna be real honest, I am straight up not having a good time.
Good game by BYU. ASU gave the game away with turnovers and penalties, and even then were within striking distance at the end.
Don’t know why I spend so much mental and emotional energy on this team every year because not only do they always let me down, but when the do, it’s usually 11:00+ at night so I don’t even have time to digest the loss before I have to go to sleep.
2-0 for the whiteouts today
Big cat noises.
True story: the lion roar they play at Penn State is a recording of a toilet flush sped up and played backwards!
BYU: 3-0 in the PAC 12
South champions confirmed!
Hang a banner in the locker room!
Can we get a billboard in Utah county saying “Welcome to PAC 12 country”?
As the announcer said, BYU is the best team in the PAC 12 south
I'm all firm for Herm. But if these penalities don't go down and they don't win the PAC 12 South (which Bishop Sycamore probably could win at this point). I vote to drive him to Sky Harbor and have him tarmac fired.
The only victory we will have this season is losing by less to BYU
We should hang a banner for it
Sitake is such a good dude. So glad he's our coach.
Seems like an awesome guy too
BYU moves to 3-0 in the Pac-12 South.
Rose bowl here we come
There's a lot to get said about the game tonight, and I'm grateful for the win, but man I just hope Hall is okay.
He’s fine. He ran off on his own power. I’m sure he got the wind knocked out of him
Gosh I hope you're right. Thank you for the assurance.
As you can tell by my flairs today was not a good day
(UPDATED) Pac-12 South Week 3 Standings

UCLA 0-0 (2-0) ??
Colorado 0-0 (1-2)
USC 1-1 (2-1)
Arizona State 0-1 (2-1)
Arizona 0-1 (0-3)
Utah 0-1 (1-2)
Check back next week for updated standings!
You love to see it.
Lmao the BigXII patch
Every time anything good happens for BYU, this gets posted, AND I FUCKING LOVE IT
I started paying attention to BYU now they're going to be in our conference and I love what I'm seeing. Good work BYU bros
Game ball to Allegier for that flying punch forcing the fumble.
That was amazing. Talk about the grit and hunger he has!
[BYU undefeated with victories over Utah and ranked opponents](https://i.imgur.com/Y9GWfLb.jpg)
You have to update to the P5 version!
Idk BYU's schedule seems not bad at all compared to say Clemson's imo. I mean its not like a cupcake ass schedule like Arizona whos playing teams like the NAU Lumberjacks ^^^^https://imgur.com/gallery/4UTIpF8.
I think if they go undefeated they should get a shot at the CFP.
What sort of disrespect do y'all think we'll get in the rankings now?
I don't even care about rankings. They're pointless. I honestly didn't even know we were ranked until kickoff and I saw the graphic.
How many 1 loss teams are we going to be behind? Cant wait to see.
Relegate the Pac12 South
Kilani in the post game BYU tv interview says “ hey everybody great game we needed all you fans. Go home get some rest and go to church” lol only at BYU
Fun fact. Tyler Allgeier, the guy who chased down the Arizona player after the pick, and tomahawked the ball out of his hands like some super villain out of an anime... he's only a sophomore. We get at least 1 more season out of him after this one.
Our best play call was that yellow flag
This is three weeks in a row that BYU has failed to convert one of its extra point attempts, though this week's "failure" was intentional.
Idk how obvious it was on TV but I was there live and the student section was soooo loud that the ASU OL couldn’t hear the play or their QBs cadence (hence all the false starts) it was insane
BYU is going to singlehandedly redefine the phrase "coug'd it"
BYU now leads the PAC-12 South with a 3-0 Conference Record
Quality Loss. Thanks, Cougs.
Herm not so firm.
But Cosmo is. Somebody hit me with that pic
Just fuck my shit up fam
My cat called an unnecessary roughness penalty on me as soon as I turned the game off. Seems about right.
In other news I had a choice to go out for drinks with my sister tonight, but chose to watch this and drink with the aforementioned cat instead. Wrong choice.
Hall plz be ok
Another awesome atmosphere and great win.
BYU is gonna win the Pac this year
Did BYU deserve that? I don’t know, but 3-0 is incredible, even if the journey there has been an absolute mess. Loving the chaos of this team
Fire Herm. Fuck him.
"New Big XII" OOC this week: UCF lost to Louisville, UC over Indiana, Houston over Grambling, WV over VA Tech, KSU over Nevada, TT over FIU, OSU over Boise, ISU over UNLV, BYU over Arizona State.
The "conference" came into the week undefeated against FCS, which continued. 4-1 vs G5 opponents went to 8-1 including 2-0 vs Boise. 4-2 vs P5 improves to 7-3 including two more wins against ranked teams.
This is a good set of teams. No bad losses here, though a couple are disappointing.
- Gave them 14 points off of turnovers and end up losing by 10
- The committees has stop ranking us for the first two weeks of every reason don't they ever learn?
- I'm not looking forward to an entire season of Jayden Daniels at QB
- Lmao NAU beat Arizona
Daniels seems to be pretty good and extremely athletic, but he hesitates and panics - and looks to run often. Still crazy good though IMO.
Allgeier offensive and defensive player of the game .
bless you for your contribution to a ranked Michigan state cougar brothers
I fucking hate supporting this team lol
