If You're not zenithal priming, I strongly urge you try it!

What is zenithal priming?
Spraying (or brushing on) a white (or lighter color) over a dark basecoat. Pretty much gives you a guide on how to paint your lights and shadows, and if you paint with contrast or glazes, makes that look much, much better.
Any idea how to Zenithal over Grey Seer for contrast paints? Would you spray Wraithbone? Or can you use Corax white and still get a good coat with contrast paints?
I use acrylic ink through an airbrush, but any white spray can would do. And You don't even need Grey Seer to make contrast work. That's just a GW marketing ploy. Works just fine, if not better over a standard zenithal.
For example; my usual combo is white ink over German Panzer Grey and I use contrast on a fair few of my models.
I was told that the "official" GW contrast primers were supposed to be smoother, and thus make the contrast paints look better, but that could be a pile of BS.
Total bunk. Any paint can be smooth if you make it smooth, ie, thin it properly.
Well, I guess you can't really make texture paint smooth, but the point still stands!
I have used grey seer with a zenithal of wraithbone for a speed paint with just contrast paint. Personally I think it lacked the dark shadows of if you had primed black then heavy zenithal with either of the lighter paints. However the tone light tones gave a bit of additional colour variations that I liked and would use again
I'll be attempting this soon with a crusader squad I've just finished assembling. White ink over a black base coat so hopefully I get some nice contrasts. I'll be following that up with some chromatic blacks in thin layers of ink to hopefully retain the highlights and shadows and end up with a nice black for the armour.
Which brand of ink are you using?
Thanks! I use FW but I've heard good things about Golden as well.
Nice, I already bought some FW inks locally so it's good to see the results!
Yeah, I'd love to if my light primer that Amazon says was delivered yesterday actually got here 😭
I use grey seer as my zenithal over black and it works fine. I wouldnt use it as a base as it's too light
